Pope Leo XIV’s Perspective on the Middle East, Iran, the U.S., and Israel

On May 8, 2025, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, ascended to the papal throne. With a strong background in serving the poor and promoting social justice, he is expected to support dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful resolution of conflicts, particularly in U.S.-Iran relations. While he has not yet issued an official statement on the Gaza war or the Israel-Palestine conflict, based on the Catholic Church’s longstanding commitment to human rights and justice, he is likely to call for an end to violence and the start of peace negotiations. With a foundation in moral diplomacy, Pope Leo XIV may play a significant role in easing tensions and promoting peace across troubled regions.
